This week we finally had the chance to get out and put our fancy new miter saw to work. We figured even without nails, we could get all the floor joists measured and cut so when the nails arrive, we just put everything together. It’s a good thing too, because we had made a change in our SketchUp plan but didn’t account for the extra length, so in putting the joist boxes together, we realized our mistake and were able to fix it before we had nailed everything together.
We were extremely thankful for the shop and the wood stove this week. Winter arrived with a vengeance here, starting with 34 degree temperatures and 20-30 mph winds, followed by 9 inches of snow and sub-zero temperatures. With highs in the teens, even the shop isn’t warm enough for more than a short amount of time, so again, we aren’t working much until the nails arrive and the temperatures warm up a little. But hey, every little bit gets us closer to finishing!
